LADIES’ OPEN DAY 2018

64 couples took part in our 2018 Open Day competition on a lovely bright, albeit slightly breezy, day.

CLICK HERE to view the list of prize winners … well done ladies!

Over £500 was raised from the proceeds of the raffle and will be presented to the Beatson Institute for Cancer Research Glasgow.  Thank you to the very generous donations from the members and to the helpers at the raffle table on the day.  Thanks also to all the ladies who assisted with the ‘check in’ table, and to the gentlemen starters at the tee, who bravely kept the ladies on time!

A tremendous amount of effort goes into events like this and we say a very big thank you to Anne Fergusson, Sally McFarlane and Helen Robertson, ably assisted by Jinty Halley and Patricia Richmond, for their organisation of 26 Douglas Park Ladies’ Open Days!  They have raised around £600 every year enabling so many different charities to benefit from these donations over the years.  Magnificent – well done ladies and thank you so much!

It was good to see a large number of competitors enjoying excellent catering and staying for the prizegiving in the evening.

Anne Reid, Lady Captain

Sandra Goldie wins the 2018 Ladies Championship

The Douglas Park Golf Club Championship matches took place yesterday with Fiona Rattray against Sandra Goldie in the Championship, Helen Faulds against Olive Mackay in the Seniors and Kirstie Souter and Christiana Capaldi in the Junior Girls Final.

Fiona who had played well in the West of Scotland Inter County Matches last week at Erskine eventually ran out of steam — It was her 8th match of  a long hard week playing a very steady Sandra Goldie and eventually lost on the 17th Green. She did however have an EAGLE 2 at the 16th hole !!

Helen and Olive had a ding dong match with Helen being the eventual winner 2&1

The Junior Girls match was well played with Christiana being the winner

Many congratulations go to the winners and many thanks go to all the referees – Helen Robertson (Championship), Denise McNaughton (Senior Ladies) and Susan Rattray (Junior Girls)

A final note Douglas Park  member June Lockhart was the Captain of the Winning County Team Renfrewshire  last week — Many congratulations June

Lady Captain’s Day

Prizewinners Lady Captains Day

Some of the prizewinners on the day

72 ladies took part in a Tri-am on Friday 1st June. This was over 11 holes  as there were dire warnings of thunder storms after 2.00pm. — In the event it did not happen & the day was completed in warm sunshine.

The 2 best stableford scores counted at each hole
Congratulations go to the winners with 54 points — Barbara Aitchison, Alison Miller & Elaine McEwan.
Runners up with 53 points were June Gordon, Susan Rattray & Linda Robertson.

At the same time they had an individual competition where they were given stableford points which they could loose in certain circumstances.

There were 6 of our older ladies who took part in the putting competition which Drew so ably organises for them. This was  won by Marjory Cooper after a playoff & some amazing putting.

The Primrose Cup for the junior girls was won by 13 year old Sophie Murphy (pictured above)

In the evening everyone returned for another of Lisa’s excellent buffets & a prize giving.

Ladies Christmas Lunch

LADIES ANNUAL CHRISTMAS LUNCH

Douglas Park Ladies do it again!  97 Ladies turned out in force to enjoy a delicious Christmas Lunch on Sunday.  We were delighted to welcome so many of our new members to their first social event. The Ladies’ Choir once again entertained us with two delightful Christmas songs with everyone joining in for several more which certainly got us all into the Christmas spirit!  Needless to say, there was much laughter and much chat!  My sincere thanks to the Ladies’ Committee for all their help, to Eileen Hunter and Margaret Morris and the Choir and particularly to Lisa, Pauline and all their staff for an excellent meal, faultlessly served in a very festive looking lounge.

LAM 2017

Sixty nine ladies attended this year’s Annual meeting, during which Ladies’ Captain Christina Graham and key speakers, Honorary Treasurer Denise Macnaughton, Match Secretary Barbara Aitchison, and Junior Girls’ Convenor Susan Rattray gave a summary of their year.  In addition to the usual reports and business, two additional matters were raised: the Ladies’ Constitution was updated and a lively discussion was held on the proposal made to the meeting that the Silver Cup Knockout Competition should be open to Silver Players only. The cup, the Ladies’ Section’s first trophy, was presented to the Ladies Section, ninety six years ago, in 1921 by the Gents Committee, to be played for by all Lady Members.  A vote was taken and the proposal was accepted.

Ladies’ Captain Christina thanked her committee and all members for their support over the season and for helping to raise £2380 for the chosen charities this year.  She also made special mention of the Patrick Trophy team on winning the trophy two years running and for the third time in 4 years.

Three new committee members, Kirsty Fergusson Honorary Secretary, Brenda Murray Honorary Treasurer and Karen Neilson were welcomed.  The retiring members, Past Captain Mary McLean, Joyce Ferguson and Barbara Aitchison, were thanked for their commitment and hard work to committee and club.

Ladies’ Vice Captain Anne Reid introduced proposed new Vice Captain elect Denise MacNaughton, retiring Honorary Treasurer.

The ladies’ champion, Fiona Rattray concluded the annual meeting with a most amusing speech.

Ladies Coffee Morning 2017

LADIES ANNUAL COFFEE MORNING :  SATURDAY 4TH NOVEMBER 2017

We had a marvellous turn out for our Annual Coffee Morning in aid of Cancer Research UK.  85 Ladies and Captain Alistair, who we were delighted to welcome, thoroughly enjoyed the morning browsing the stalls, enjoying the coffee and home baking.   My sincere thanks to all who attended and to all members of the club who made donations, gave raffle prizes, bought tickets and contributed to the Home Produce Stall.  Our thanks too to Pauline and her staff, to our stall holders and to the Ladies’ Committee for their hard work and delicious home baking.

We raised the remarkable sum of £933!  There is still some tablet for sale at the bar so that sum will increase slightly. Congratulations everyone and thank you for being so generous in aid of such a worthy charity!

GET INTO GOLF – LADIES’ TEXAS SCRAMBLE

Great excitement as 18 GIG Ladies took to the course on Wednesday to play their first competition at Douglas Park – a Texas scramble. The ladies played off the blue tees and played really well considering they have only been members since May. The winning team in the morning competition with a gross score of 36, including a very impressive magic 2 on the 5th hole, was Kerina Morgan, Catherine Parbrook, and Morag Thomson; Runners-up were Sarah Bell, Linda Meldrum and Shona Stewart.  In the evening competition the winners were Linda Donaldson and Denise Sifton with a gross score of 40 which is excellent given it was a team of only two players.   Each team was accompanied by a Buddy who kept the score and helped with etiquette and rules which was greatly appreciated by the players.
All in all a very enjoyable competition and a great start!   Well done GIG Ladies.  Watch this  space!

competitive spirit resulting in a win for the Vice Captain’s Team 3-1, with

forecasted rain which held off until the last group were in! Many thanks to

Ladies’ Committee Outing – 24 August 2017

The Ladies’ committee outing was held at Caldwell Golf Club on 24th August.  24 ladies took part in teams of 4 playing a 4 ball better ball stableford. There was an added twist in the form of a piece of string 4ft long given to each player to be used 4 times each during the round giving each lady 4 ‘gimmees’.

The course was rather wet in places but as some holes were under a lake the day before we were lucky to be able to play at all. The weather was also extremely kind to us , only starting to rain once we were finished.

The catering was excellent & we were well looked after by the staff at Caldwell.

The winning team was : Jinty, Laura, Susan & Janice after count back!

LADIES’ OPEN DAY 2017

Despite a slightly dampish start to the day most players enjoyed a lovely dry, albeit breezy, game of golf!  68 couples took part in the competition during this the 24th year of the Open Greensomes Competition.

A lot of effort goes into organising events like this, very many thanks to Anne Fergusson and her team of helpers – Helen Robertson, Jinty Halley and Sally MacFarlane.  Thanks too, to the gentlemen starters at the tee, who valiantly kept the ladies on time.

Two well deserving charities will benefit in excess of £250 each from the proceeds of the raffle – Riding for the Disabled and Mary’s Meals.  Thank you to the very generous donations from the members and to the helpers at the raffle table on the day.

It was good to see a large number of competitors enjoying excellent catering and staying for the prizegiving in the evening.
