GREAT TIME HAD A GIN NIGHT

Around 30 participants enjoyed the recent gin night presented by ‘Stirling  Gin’.  Cameron McCann the owner gave an interesting talk on the background to Stirling Gin and invited the company to partake in a variety of gin samplings from cocktails to liqueurs. As can be seen good night had by all.  Cheers!!

DONALD CAMERON TEAM 2018 CAMPAIGN CONTINUES

For the third match in the 2018 campaign the Donald Cameron team travelled to Bishopbriggs.

Alastair Thomson fought out a very close match but lost at the last hole.Craig Young kept up his good form winning 2 & 1.

Clark Nelson continued his unbeaten run winning 2 up and Angus Watson played some excellent golf to win 5 & 4.

Sadly that was the end of the good news for Douglas Park as losses were incurred by Matthew Anderson,David Carrick,Chris McManus and Calum Gordon.

There is now a two week break before the team will host the Glasgow club on the 20th June.

DONALD CAMERON WINNING AWAY

The second match in the 2018 campaign saw the Donald Cameron team travelling to Dullatur.On a dry,bright evening the first three DP players were in great form with Alastair Thomson winning 5 & 3 ,Craig Young winning 1 up and Clark Nelson winning comprehensively 6 & 4.
Those excellent scores were followed by 3 defeats incurred by David Carrick,Angus Watson & Ross Cameron.
Steve Wightman steadied the ship with a dominant 7 & 5 win.
The final match involved a DP junior member , Scott Soutar , who had been called in at the last minute.Scott was 2 down with 7 to play but somehow managed to lift his game – the result a last hole win which gave the team an overall victory 5 matches to 3. Scott received enthusiastic applause from his team-mates when he arrived back at the clubhouse.
This has been an excellent start to the 2018 campaign and the team now look forward to taking on Bishopbriggs next Wednesday ,30th May , away from home.

DONALD CAMERON FIRST MATCH

The first match of the 2018 Donald Cameron League campaign saw the formidable Cawder team being entertained at Douglas Park.

Due to work commitments  our Club Champion , Alistair Thomson , was unable to play.However the team put up a great performance to hold Cawder to a 4 all halved match.

Craig Young played some superb gold to defeat his opponent 3 & 1.Clark Nelson was in impressive form resulting in a 6 & 5 win.

Matthew Anderson was not as his best and lost 3 & 1.Angus Watson was well down for much of his match but produced an exciting come-back to win on the last green with a birdie 3.

Steven Wightman,Chris McManus and Dave McClement all lost before Ross Cameron produced the win to give the team their halved match with a fine 2 up victory.

The team are away to Dullatur next Wednesday.

ISOBEL CURRIE TROPHY (INCORPORATING “PING” SCOTTISH MIXED CHAMPIONSHIPS QUALIFIER

Many thanks to the 16 couples who took part yesterday (13th May) in beautiful sunshine for the Isobel Currie Trophy which also acted as the Club’s qualifier for the “Ping” Scottish Mixed Championship. The top 40 pairs based on stableford scores from Clubs throughout Scotland will qualify to play in the Grand Final at Gleneagles (Queen’s Course) in September.

Congratulations to Lindsay and Carol Stuart who returned the best score of 37 points. Let’s hope this score will get them through to the Grand Final.

The runners-up were Alan Dunipace and Barbara Aitchison with a score of 33 points

“Wonderful” Whisky Night at Douglas Park

An enthusiastic audience enjoyed an evening devoted to whisky last Friday in the Douglas Park lounge. The very knowledgeable speaker from Glengoyne distillery gave an fascinating talk on the history of our  national drink. Key dates reflecting significant years in whisky’s development were entered on bingo cards and those with lines of dates and all four corners on the card won prizes. It was both innovative and  highly entertaining. This was interspersed with a range of whisky tastings which were greatly savoured by those attending.

Catering manager Lisa Cuthbert was ably assisted by Charlie Anderson in providing excellent canapes to help absorb the alcohol. An evening much appreciated by all who attended.

LAM 2017

Sixty nine ladies attended this year’s Annual meeting, during which Ladies’ Captain Christina Graham and key speakers, Honorary Treasurer Denise Macnaughton, Match Secretary Barbara Aitchison, and Junior Girls’ Convenor Susan Rattray gave a summary of their year.  In addition to the usual reports and business, two additional matters were raised: the Ladies’ Constitution was updated and a lively discussion was held on the proposal made to the meeting that the Silver Cup Knockout Competition should be open to Silver Players only. The cup, the Ladies’ Section’s first trophy, was presented to the Ladies Section, ninety six years ago, in 1921 by the Gents Committee, to be played for by all Lady Members.  A vote was taken and the proposal was accepted.

Ladies’ Captain Christina thanked her committee and all members for their support over the season and for helping to raise £2380 for the chosen charities this year.  She also made special mention of the Patrick Trophy team on winning the trophy two years running and for the third time in 4 years.

Three new committee members, Kirsty Fergusson Honorary Secretary, Brenda Murray Honorary Treasurer and Karen Neilson were welcomed.  The retiring members, Past Captain Mary McLean, Joyce Ferguson and Barbara Aitchison, were thanked for their commitment and hard work to committee and club.

Ladies’ Vice Captain Anne Reid introduced proposed new Vice Captain elect Denise MacNaughton, retiring Honorary Treasurer.

The ladies’ champion, Fiona Rattray concluded the annual meeting with a most amusing speech.

MOSSHEAD TROPHY

A Lady’s and a Gent’s team competed in the Mosshead Trophy at Milngavie Golf club on Saturday morning, both coming second out of  8 teams by narrowly losing to the Milngavie’s Lady’s and Gent’s Home teams.  A great achievement particularly given the very wet conditions underfoot!

Club Championship Finals Day – Sunday 18th June

This Sunday is the Club Championship Finals Day with a total 8 finals played over the course of the day.  Following the matches, there is a prizegiving and buffet from 5.30pm until 7pm available to all members at £12 per person.  Those attending the buffet should book via the bar.
