FINAL MATCH OF THE 2018 CAMPAIGN FOR DONALD CAMERON TEAM

The Donald Cameron team played their final match in the 2018 campaign against local rivals Windyhill.

Craig Young came up against an opponent in form who was 5 under par when he defeated Craig 5 & 4.

Angus Watson’s opponent was former Scottish Amateur champion , George Duncan.George opened with 5 straight 3s and despite Angus bringing him back to 2up George went on to win 4 & 3.

Michael Giovannetti was 2 down with 2 to play and kept the match alive with a tap in birdie at the 17th.Unfortunately he could not replicate this result at the 18th and lost 1 down.

Steven Wightman played some excellent golf to win 3 & 2 and it was good to see Matthew Anderson returning to his usual high standards when winning 4 & 3.

Andrew Abercrombie was also 2 down with two to play when he secured  a birdie two at the 17th.Unfortunately he also lost at the last.

Ross Cameron suffered a bad night on the course when losing 5 & 3 which result secured a winning margin for Windyhill.

Adam McLeod improved the overall result with a fine 3 & 2 win.

This loss to Windyhill by a score-line 5 matches to 3 could result in the relegation of the team to Division 2.

The team would like to thank Captain George Roberts for his support throughout the campaign and to Lisa and her staff for the excellent catering provided.

A number of  members of the Douglas Park Donald Cameron League team took part in The DCL Dinner at Hayston Golf Club last Friday evening. The meal was followed by an excellent after-dinner speech by Partick Thistle and Scotland goalkeeping legend, Alan Rough. No trophies for DP on the night but Ross Cameron won a very healthy second-prize in the raffle. Drinks are on him.

DONALD CAMERON LEAGUE LATEST MATCH

“The Donald Cameron team played their third match at home to Bishopbriggs.

Alastair Thomson gave the team their perfect start with a convincing 7 & 6 win.

Craig young was unfortunate to lose by one hole before Matthew Anderson , in excellent form , chipped in at the 16th for a birdie and a 3 & 2 win.

Chris McManus and Andrew Abercrombie both suffered heavy defeats and Angus Watson was unlucky to lose on the final green.

Fortunately there is great depth in this DP team and Stephen Wightman recorded an excellent win by the margin 3 & 2.

Michael Giovannetti , playing his first game for the team , secured an overall halved match 4 – 4 , with a strong 2 & 1 win.

The next match is on the 21st June when the team are away to league leaders , Glasgow , and all players will have to be at their best if DP are to secure a result from a formidable Glasgow line-up

DONALD CAMERON TEAM VS GLASGOW

The big match-up between the two stongest teams in the league took place on Wednesday evening when Glasgow Killermont visited Douglas Park.

Glasgow fielded three plus handicap players and their highest handicap player played off 2.

Alistair Thomson and Chris McManus both lost as did Angus Carrick giving Glasgow an early lead. However the strength in depth which the Douglas Park team now carries showed itself when Andrew Abercrombie won 1 up followed by our in-form Matthew Anderson who won 3 & 2 (pictured below at the 11th tee)

Angus Watson was labouring in the first nine being 2 down but birdied 4 holes on the back nine to register a 3 & 2 win.

Michael Giovannetti was a comfortable winner 5 & 4.

The last match on the course involved two previous Cawder members with Craig Young up against plus handicap Neil MacRae,This match went down the wire to the 18th where Craig closed Neil out with a par 4 to win 1 up.

Craig’s win resulted in an overall victory by 5 to 3 in favour of Douglas Park and ensured our team remain top of Division 2.

The team are away to Milngavie next Thursday the 2nd June.

Donald Cameron Team v Dullatur

“The Donald Cameron team played their second tie of the 2016 season away to Dullatur  on Wednesday evening.

On a wet and murky night our top two team members Alastair Thomson and Craig Young both lost to two excellent Dullatur players.

Chris McManus also looked like losing when two down with two to play. However Chris fought back to win the final two holes to register a half point which result proved to be very significant as the match progressed.

Andrew Abercrombie , playing the course for the first time , sank a 20 foot put on the last green to win his match one up.

Angus Watson proved to be too powerful for his opponent and won his match comfortably 3 & 2.

Matthew Anderson , our form player ,  continued his excellent season winning 4 & 3

Ross Cameron fought hard but lost on the final green 1 down.

This left the overall result on a knife-edge with Peter Grant , also  new to this course , playing in near darkness, Peter managed to two putt from 30 feet on the last green to win one up which result left the team score at 4.5 to 3.5 in favour of Douglas Park.

Next Wednesday , the 25th May , the team meet their biggest challenge when Glasgow Killermont come to Douglas Park. We have a very strong team to meet this challenge and the team would welcome members who would wish to come out to support the team. A win would ensure promotion to the first division. and would go a long way towards winning the Division 2 title.
