The Donald Cameron team travelled to local rivals Bearsden to play their fifth match of the 2016 campaign.

This turned out to be a great night for the team as they recorded a 6 to 2 win which result ensured that Douglas Park are the 2016 Division 2 champions and winners of the Campsie Trophy which tr will be presented to the Club at the annual dinner in February 2017.

Chris McManus led the team out but suffered a 5 & 4 loss to Bearsden’s best player Chris Prior.

This was the only loss suffered by the Douglas Park team as the next 5 matches all went our way.

Angus Carrick won comfortably 6 & 5 finishing with a delightful birdie 3 at the long 13th hole.Angus is probably one of the finest strikers of a golf ball when he is in this form.

Team selector , Angus Watson , continued his unbeaten form registering a 5 & 4 win.

Our “Senior ” representative , Dave McClement , faced a hard fought match with former Douglas Park member , Craig Hughes , before winning 2 & 1.

Adam McLeod proved too strong against his opponent winning 5 & 4 and Steven Wightman also registered a convincing win 6 & 4.

This left two matches on the course with both matches finishing all square involving Craig Young and Andrew Abercrombie.

The final match will be played next week , Wednesday 29th June , at home to Hayston GC . The team will be making every effort to finish on a winning note as that will result in a clean sweep of all 6 matches , a feat that I have never experienced in my years of involvement with the team.

Club members who wish to see the team in action next Wednesday will be made most welcome.
