Donald Cameron League 2017
21st May 2017Donald Cameron League
25th May 201788 players teed off for the annual Douglas Park Invitation Day. All was going well (one could even say “swimmingly”) – the weather was beautiful, the course conditions excellent and high stableford points scores were being returned. Then, in late afternoon, the skies darkened, the heavens opened and within a short time the course and some of the greens were waterlogged. From swimmingly to nearly swimming. A very ‘Scottish’ day of golf! Despite this the competition was completed and thanks go to Drew who managed to keep the greens clear and, also, to the groups of players who struggled to complete their rounds and who were absolutely drenched.
The weather wasn’t the only drama of the day. There was a police incident, not golf related, with helicopter overhead and police officers on the ground. Never a dull moment on Ladies’ Invitation Day!!
The evening prizegiving rounded off a very successful day and included the presentation of a cheque for £900 to Drena O’Malley, Liaison Officer of Deaf Blind Scotland’s Guide Communication programme. The excellent total was raised from both the Invitation Day and the Bridge Drive Thanks were then made to the ladies’ committee for their help with the organisation and the superb baking in the gazebo; to the raffle helpers and to Lisa, Drew, Robert and their teams for their invaluable support.
