AT THIS TIME OF YEAR
Douglas Park Golf Club will once again honour those from the Club who served, and in some cases died, in two world wars, by the display of our framed tributes in the main hallway of the clubhouse from Friday 8th November to Friday 15th November 2018.
Our archives tell us that :-
In World War I
163 gentlemen members served in HM Forces of whom 28 died on active service.
Of the 163, 21 were junior members of whom 4 died on active service.
48 lady members were on war work of one kind or another.
In World War II
127 gentlemen members served in HM Forces of whom 5 died on active service. *
Of the 127, some were junior members.
32 lady members were on war work of one kind or another.
* (Including our Professional, Jimmy Kilroy.)
Please take a minute when next in the clubhouse to view the display and ponder on what these members and staff gave up as they put golf aside, and their normal daily lives on hold, to go off and serve. The memorial tablet commemorating those who died is in the hallway.

Thank you Harry. We must never forget their sacrifice. My Grandfather fought at Cambrai in WW1 and his Brother died at Ypres. I’m sure all Members will have similar tales to tell. As a serving member of HM Forces this time of year is a special time for reflection. The 100 year anniversary of the end of WW1 makes it even more poignant. We will remember them. Regards, Roddy
