“What an amazing night at Douglas Park when the Donald Cameron team entertained the mighty Sandyhills team awash with scratch and plus h/cap players.
Missing two of our lowest h/cap players in Martin Bell & Craig Young the relatively young team defeated the Sandyhiils team by the margin 7.5 to 0.5 !!
The win was even more significant when you consider that Sandyhills won the Division 1 title in 2012 then went on to defeat the winning team in the south-side Brand Putter league. As a result they represented Glasgow in the annual match V the winners of the Edinburgh league,Royal Burgess and came away with an overall victory 8.5 to 7.5.
Angus Carrick led the way with a crushing 7&6 win over the Sandyhills CC Stephen Robertson finishing with a tidy 2 at the 12th.
Angus Watson regained his form beating a Scottish Internationalist,Mark Bookless,4&3
Matthew Anderson had an excellent 2 & 1 win with Andrew McNamara a convincing 5 & 3 winner.Morris Brodie kept the momentum going with a 6 & 5 win which meant that the team had won the first 5 matches. To say that the Sandyhills officials were dumbfounded would have been an understatement.
Adam McLeod ,playing his first match for the senior team, secured a great win with a birdie 3 at the last hole to win 1 up.Adam had been called in at the last moment and had had to rearrange his working shift to turn out for the team.
Dave McClement showed great determination to come back from 4 down with 6 to play to force a halved match. Finally Mr Consistent,Michael Gionannetti ,came in with a 2 & 1 win to confirm the overall result a win for DP 7.5 to 0.5.
The final match of the 2013 campaign is against Windyhill,at home,on Sunday 30th June at 2.00pm.
Although we cannot overtake Bearsden who have 9 points we can be very good runners-up with 8 points if we can defeat Windyhill.
