The Douglas Park Past Captain’s team played old adversaries,Lenzie, in the quarter-finals of the Cup on Sunday afternoon. Although the course was quite wet following a night of rain it drained really well with little surface water.

The first pairing of Douglas Samson & John Telfer came up against two in-form Lenzie golfers but managed to hold their opponents to a 4 down loss.

Gordon McGregor & Colin McEwen steadied the ship with a 2 up win as did David Wightman & Jack MacIntyre. David & Jack were 1 down with 4 to play but finished strongly.

This left the tie level, each with 4 hole wins. The last pairing of Ian Letford & Hugh MacIntyre were, however,  never in any danger of losing their match finishing 8 up.

The Past Captain’s team are now in the semi-finals where they will play the current Cup holders, Bearsden, at home. Bearsden defeated Douglas Park at the same stage in 2012 thus it gives our team an opportunity to  get their own back and to, hopefully, reach the final which will be played at Hayston GC on Sunday 29th September.
