Ladies’ Patrick Trophy – 2017
17th May 2017Ladies’ Invitation Day 2017
22nd May 2017“Following their promotion to Division 1 the Douglas Park Donald Cameron team faced a very difficult opening match away to the all conquering Cawder team.
Cawder had emulated the DP team’s performance in going undefeated in their 2016 league matches and going on to win the Boundary Bell and the Inter-Cities finale V Turnhouse.
In the opening match Alastair Thomson played a superb match to defeat Andy Fairbairn 2 up.
Clark Nelson , returning to the fold after a number of years away , could not sustain his earlier good form and lost 4 & 3.
Craig Young , playing over a course he was once a member of , recorded an excellent 3 & 2 win.
Unfortunately we then lost the next 3 matches with Angus Carrick losing 3&2 , Chris McManus losing 4 & 3,and team Captain , Angus Watson losing 1 down.Angus had been 2 down with 2 to play and had registered a birdie at the 17th to keep the game alive but could only halve the final hole.
Matthew Anderson was in great form registering a comfortable 3 & 2 win.
With the match closely balanced the overall result was in the hands of our Match Sec’y Stephen Wightman. One down playing the 18th , a par 3 hole, Stephen sank his birdie put for a 2 but saw his opponent following him in thus Stephen lost 1 down and the team lost by the tight margin 5 matches to 3.
This was a creditable performance in their first match in Division 1 and the team are now looking forward to entertaining Dullatur next Wednesday the 24th May at Douglas Park.
Members wishing to support the team will be made most welcome.
