Saturday 17th August, saw a Memorial Day in memory of Mike Sellers who sadly passed away in January. Mike was a very popular member of Douglas Park, as shown by the 88 members who turned out for a Memorial match in his name and the countless members who made apologies who could not make the event.
Mike will be fondly remember at the club as a member and played regularly in mid morning Saturday sweep and was match convenor in two spells, most recently at his time of passing.
The match took place between Mike’s Sweep Team and his Match Team, with the Match team prevailing 17up, in what was a very close battle until the last couple of games.
Mike’s sons Dave and Jamie both attended as well as his younger Brother Neil. They all spoke fondly of Mike’s time at Douglas Park and thanked all members who took the time to play.
After the match, there was a meal and raffle – thanks to all that donated, raising over £950 for The Heart Foundation.
Thanks again to all that took part and all the staff and volunteers for their efforts in organising.
