29th August 2012For the information of all members, click on this link to the SGU website which advises on the correct course of action to take under a wide range of circumstances which may arise, necessitating a decision on delay to or suspension of or cancellation of a competition.
It covers all manner of circumstances under which competitions may require to be delayed or terminated and will be a valuable document to copy and keep for future reference.
In our area, this is normally related to “inundation of the course”, however it also covers such things as high winds (you may recall play being suspended in the British Open at St Andrews in 2010 for this reason) and could cover icy conditions, during winter league matches for example, for reasons of safety.
Other useful information is available via Scottish Golf.org so keep this link to hand.

Additionally, as weather forecasting is something of a “black art”, I’ve found this link on the BBC website to be pretty accurate for me all summer. Use it on the day of your game or on the day before you plan to play for a detailed and generally accurate indication of the weather to be expected in Bearsden in handy “by-the-hour” segments.
Also, click on this link for further updates on the historical weather records issued by the Met Office.
